Behavioural approach
Pam appreciates the difficulties that people have in managing their weight and/or medical conditions and endeavours to forge a helping relationship with patients, looking at the options together in a collaborative manner.
Most people are now aware that eating healthily and being physically active will reduce the risk of many diseases and will improve their health. However, achieving lasting changes to eating behaviour can require effort, energy and sometimes sacrifices and this can often be met with resistance and ambivalence. Using a client centred motivational approach, Pam endeavours to help with exploring these potential difficulties, and options for change and goal setting are discussed together.
'To facilitate behaviour change I involve patients directly and encourage personal responsibility for health. Whilst sharing my professional knowledge, I endeavour to encouraging discussion on thoughts and feelings about changing eating behaviour, and support people in making their own goals whilst making small sustainable changes'
